  1. Teach Fundamentals, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Obstetrics, Psychiatric, Geriatric, Maternal and Pediatric Nursing in the classroom and clinical environments.
  2. Advise students on curriculum and career goals.
  3. Work with other VATNP faculty members to develop and evaluate curriculum/courses as required.
  4. Establish and assess student learning outcomes and participate in Institutional Effectiveness initiatives to include assessment and program reviews.
  5. Integrate concept-based nursing education principles.
  6. Teach courses via distance learning media.
  7. Maintain ten office hours per week.
  8. Serve on college/program committees.
  9. Participate in college, community and professional activities.
  10. Pursue professional growth and development activities in his/her discipline(s).
  11. Perform other such duties as may be deemed appropriate.
  12. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty & staff and other stakeholders important to the college.


  1. Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  2. Two years recent, related clinical experience required.
  3. Successful teaching experience at the community college level preferred.
  4. Candidates must be proficient in oral and written communication in the English language.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty & staff and other stakeholders important to the college required.

Rank and Salary:  Rank and salary dependent on academic credentials and work experience

Available:  January 1, 2018.  This is a full-time nine-month teaching position. Reappointment will be based on performance evaluations and institutional needs.

The Program:

The Program: The Virginia Appalachian Tricollege Nursing Program is a three college consortium program jointly operated by Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon, Southwest VirginiaCommunity College in Richlands and Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap.  The Program is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA, 30326.
