Herbalism Class Begins Aug. 1

A non-credit course in Herbalism will be offered by Certified Herbalist Pam Shumate at Virginia Highlands Community College, beginning Aug, 1 and continuing through Sept. 12. The class meets from 6-7 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday on the VHCC campus.

Those enrolled will learn the study techniques used by herbalists, the responsible methods for wildcrafting, how to safely and effectively use herbs, and how to gather, dry, and clean herbs. There will be a special focus on the healing properties and side effects of 10 herbs common to Southwest Virginia.

The cost of the course is $125 plus materials. Students may register online at
