Machine Technology Scholarships Available

First-Year Students Eligible

Post Date:08/14/2017 1:17 PM

New students who enroll this fall in the Machine Technology Program at Virginia Highlands Community College will receive a $500 stipend and may be eligible for additional funding to cover tuition and supplies, thanks to a $15,000 gift from the Gene Haas Foundation.

All first-time students enrolled in the program, regardless of financial need, will receive a $500 stipend during the fall semester. Those with a financial need may also be eligible for assistance through the Gene Haas Scholarship, which will provide up to $1,000 in tuition assistance and another $500 for books and supplies during the academic year. To be eligible for scholarship funds, students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and maintain a 2.0 grade point average or higher.

The Gene Haas Foundation was created in 1999 by Gene Haas, founder and president of Haas Automation, Inc. and reflects Haas’ commitment to the manufacturing industry and manufacturing education.

The two-semester Machine Technology program at VHCC leads to a Career Studies Certificate. Graduates are prepared for entry level jobs in the industry and have the skills needed to read blueprints, work as a tool crib attendant, and operate a lathe and drill press.
