VHCC to Offer Course in Race, Ethnicity
A three-hour course that examines how race and ethnicity shape society will be offered online this summer at Virginia Highlands Community College.
Race and Ethnicity (SOC 266) will be taught by Cory Lewis, VHCC instructor of sociology, May 30 through July 3. The course will be taught completely online and can be transferred to many four-year institutions, including East Tennessee State University, Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia. It also may be used as a professional development opportunity for K-12 educators who receive prior approval from system administrators.
In this course, students will explore the experiences of different racial and ethnic groups, including African Americans, Americans of Hispanic descent, Native Americans, Asian populations, and those from Arab countries. Prejudice, discrimination, and stereotyping will be examined.
For additional information about the course, please email email@example.com. Registration for Summer and Fall Classes begins March 19. For enrollment assistance, please contact VHCC Student Services at (276) 739-2438
