Ensuring Advisor Success: Mastering the Art of Advising through the First Year of Advising and Beyond

VCCS Online

The VCCS has developed a Master Course File to aid students and advisors in locating courses offered throughout the VCCS. This is especially helpful for students who may need specific classes that are not offered at their home institution at the time they need them. Even better, the system allows students to search for classes offered online so they never have to leave home. Check it out at http://courses.vccs.edu/mcf/. Courses currently being offered come complete with the home colleges schedule.

Advising Tip for Faculty from Faculty

By addressing the student by his/her name, the student feels a connection to the campus, department, and the faculty.  By remaining relaxed and inviting, the student feels comfortable.  Start with an open-ended question using “how" or "what.” This encourages students to take ownership and active involvement during the meeting.
