Next year Virginia Highlands
Community College (VHCC) will be enjoying its landmark 40th
anniversary, and there is much to celebrate. VHCC began offering
classes in 1969 and awarded 38 credentials to its first graduates in
June 1970. The Class 2007 was comprised of 250 graduates who earned
281 credentials. In fact, we presented our 10,000th credential to a
member of the Class of 2007. During the 2006-2007 academic year,
enrollment grew to 3,383 students and more than $4.2 million in
financial assistance was awarded to our students.
To celebrate VHCC’s 40th birthday, I hope you will unite with me, as
a member of our alumni family, and join the VHCC Forty for Forty
Society – honoring forty years of educational excellence as well as
a forty-year partnership with the community. Please consider a
one-time $40 tax-deductible contribution to the College – one dollar
for every year the school has been in existence.
Why support the Forty for Forty campaign? One good reason to give is
simply because you care, just as I do, and because you are a former
VHCC student who wants to help future generations of students get
ahead. Your $40 investment will provide scholarships for deserving
students who struggle financially to get an education. You can join
online at
Forty for Forty
or by contacting me at
dmatlock@vhcc.edu.
Another good reason to give is that you believe in the mission of
the Virginia Community College System. Our doors are open to
everyone, and for forty years VHCC has taken great pride in helping
citizens of all ages and from all walks of life enjoy a better
quality of life through education.
Please know that as a former VHCC student, you are a valued member
of the College’s family. I hope you treasure your VHCC education and
appreciate the College’s well-earned reputation as a respected
academic resource for the community. Please join me in taking this
opportunity to invest in Virginia Highland’s future.
Sincerely yours,
David N. Matlock, Vice President
