Connection of Southwest Virginia -
This annual event, to next be held November
20, 2008,
offers a forum for the students of SwVCC, VHCC, and WCC to search
for part-time or full-time jobs, co-ops, and internships, while also
providing an opportunity to speak to local employers about the types of
jobs available as they work toward degrees. Employers will benefit from
the exposure of their companies to hundreds of educated, motivated
students looking to stay in the local community once they have finished

Spring Break Job Shadowing
Program - Continuing this year will be a job
shadowing program that will take place during Spring Break (March 10-14,
2008). This program will allow students to receive a firsthand look at
the workplace, make valuable networking contacts and have the
opportunity to see how classroom learning can be applied to real world
situations. Students will explore possible career fields through limited
observation and discussions with professionals at a selected job site.
Students will choose an industry of interest and Career Planning will
match them with an employer that has volunteered to host a student.
Between the two an agreed upon day and time will be determined. This
program will only take up one day of an employers time. If you are
interested in hosting a student please email
Career Planning. For more
information view the

Experiential Education
- Through carefully monitored internships, cooperative
education, and service learning opportunities, students have the opportunity
to receive work experience and to apply what they have learned in the
classroom in the workplace. This opportunity allows employers to accomplish
special projects and to develop an appreciation for the skills and
talents of each student. Students, in turn, receive the benefit of

Spring Break
Job Shadowing Program -
Job Shadowing is a
career exploration strategy that allows students to spend a short,
clearly defined period of time with an employer at a
company/organization site. Job shadowing provides a first-hand
look at the world of work and helps participants make decisions about
careers, majors and courses. Students generally spend one day
during spring break shadowing their sponsors in their professional
roles. The specific day and length of time are agreed upon by the
student and his/her sponsor. |
