Community College Career Connection of Southwest Virginia - This annual event, to next be held November 20, 2008, offers a forum for the students of SwVCC, VHCC, and WCC to search for part-time or full-time jobs, co-ops, and internships, while also providing an opportunity to speak to local employers about the types of jobs available as they work toward degrees. Employers will benefit from the exposure of their companies to hundreds of educated, motivated students looking to stay in the local community once they have finished their educations. Call the Office of Career Planning for further information about participating in this event.

Spring Break Job Shadowing Program - Continuing this year will be a job shadowing program that will take place during Spring Break (March 10-14, 2008). This program will allow students to receive a firsthand look at the workplace, make valuable networking contacts and have the opportunity to see how classroom learning can be applied to real world situations. Students will explore possible career fields through limited observation and discussions with professionals at a selected job site. Students will choose an industry of interest and Career Planning will match them with an employer that has volunteered to host a student. Between the two an agreed upon day and time will be determined. This program will only take up one day of an employers time. If you are interested in hosting a student please email Career Planning.  For more information view the Employer FAQ's.

Career Fair 2008 - VHCC will participate in the Interstate Career Fair that will take place on April 17, 2008. Both students and employers will benefit by attending this event, which is sponsored and attended by those from 19 local colleges. Through this cooperative event, employers can meet students from a variety of disciplines with a variety of work experience. Download the brochure and invitation letter.

Employer Partners - Career Planning routinely is looking for employers that are interested in assisting in the education of our students.  From Career Panels to Career Advice and a Slice, employers are an excellent resource and are always welcome on campus.  If you are interested in learning more please contact Career Planning.

NACElink NACElink is a national fee driven web-based system for recruiting college students for all types of employment.  This system is the result of an alliance among the nonprofit professional associations, NACE and DirectEmployers Association, and a collaborating group of career centers.

Other Services

Experiential Education -
Through carefully monitored internships, cooperative education, and service learning opportunities, students have the opportunity to receive work experience and to apply what they have learned in the classroom in the workplace. This opportunity allows employers to accomplish special projects and to develop an appreciation for the skills and talents of each student. Students, in turn, receive the benefit of work related experience that could be crucial in landing an exciting job.

Promotional Assistance-
We welcome the opportunity to help promote your company. Send us your brochures, annual reports, videotapes, business cards and application forms. We'll also be glad to link your website to our CareerLinks page so students can learn more about your company quickly and easily.

Spring Break Job Shadowing Program -
Job Shadowing is a career exploration strategy that allows students to spend a short, clearly defined period of time with an employer at a company/organization site.  Job shadowing provides a first-hand look at the world of work and helps participants make decisions about careers, majors and courses.  Students generally spend one day during spring break shadowing their sponsors in their professional roles.  The specific day and length of time are agreed upon by the student and his/her sponsor.
