VHCC Comic Con 2018Virginia Highlands Comic Con will be held at Virginia Highlands Community College on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Individuals can wear Halloween costumes and cosplayers are invited to come as their favorite comic book, sci-fi, fantasy or horror characters. Admission is free for all ages. Interesting panel discussions are scheduled throughout the day. Meet comic book artists/writers and authors of science fiction, fantasy and horror. If you've never been to a comic book convention, here's your chance!

Virginia Highlands Comic Con is a Family Friendly event. This includes costumes. We understand and respect trueness to concept when portraying a character, but please keep your own safety and respect for families in mind when choosing your cosplay. Please read the Costume Props Policy.

Gary Kwapisz
Gary is an artist/writer/colorist who has worked for DC, Marvel and other comic book companies. He is well known for his work on Marvel’s, Conan The Barbarian and The Punisher. He and writer, Chuck Dixon, have self-published the graphic novels, Civil War Adventure 1 & 2.

Jeremy Massie
Jerry is the illustrator for the comic series Amazing Age 

David Radford
Wolf Hill Studios include Night of the Were Rooster (Best Feature at Mad Monster Party 2016), Serial, Containment, Power Play and more.

Justin Trout
Justin is an author/actor/director – he is the author of the Enaya series and soon to be released Wake Brothers series. He has a master’s degree in education with a specialization in counseling from Lindsey Wilson. Justin lives in the mountains of southwest Virginia with his wife and children.

Ian Justice
Eleven-year-old Ian is Southwest Virginia’s youngest publisher and author. With two books currently available, the young author is working on completing seven more books in his The Boy Named Ash series. Ian’s publishing company is Justice Publishing and specializes in book by kids and for kids.

Brett Cook 
Brett Marcus Cook is a comic creator, painter, and kaiju fanatic. He graduated from ETSU with a BFA in graphic design after transferring from VHCC, and has been making and self-publishing comics ever since as well as doing freelance illustration and design. Pages from his graphic novel Other Sleep have been shown in the William King Museum of Art, and his paintings have been shown at Gypsy Circus Cider Company. Other comics he’s done include Burst Reach, Shouting at the Void, and All of This Will Crumble.

Appalachian Arcana Podcast with Ben Collins and Cam Collins
Appalachian Arcana brings you tales of the strange and unusual from around the Appalachian region. From hair-raising accounts of true crime to haints and hauntings, ghost cats and goatmen, tune in for stories of the many things that go bump in the night in these hills.

William Van Huss
William Van Huss is an author, historian, and artist from Bristol, VA/TN. A lifelong interest in the strange and mysterious, including UFO's, cryptozoology, hollow earth theories, unsolved mysteries, and the occult have influenced his writing, visual arts, and music for nearly 30 years. He earned his B.A. in history from King University and has researched and lectured on a variety of local Appalachian history subjects from the Solar Eclipse of 1869 to the Appalachian Trail.

Van Huss has self-published two books on mysterious episodes in our region. The first, Saucers Over Appalachia, deals with a wave of UFO sightings in 1973. The second, The Mad Gasser of Botetourt County, examines an unsolved series of terror attacks in and around Roanoke, Virginia, in 1933-34.

William and his wife, Robin, are avid collectors of kitsch art and UFO memorabilia. They recently returned from living abroad in Shanghai, China.

DP (Duane) Holiday -  Heavyweight Champion for Evolution Championship Wrestling
Duane is a actor/professional wrestler - He is a graduate from VHCC with a degree in Theater Arts, He has been featured in the film Night of The Wererooster and also performed on stage many times for VHCC in such plays as Rumors, Addams Family Musical, Winesburg Ohio and more, He is a 20 year veteran of the squared circle on the independent wrestling circuit, where he has held numerous titles and is currently the Heavyweight Champion for Evolution Championship Wrestling.

Ryan Leonard has used his prop-building skills to produce over 300 iconic items from some of the most well known movies and television franchises, such as Friday the 13th, Star Wars, the Evil Dead and Jurassic Park.
