High School Students in Class

Take Dual Enrollment Classes

#SaveBIG, #LearnMORE, and #GetAHEAD, all while you’re still in high school!

Dual Enrollment classes offer high school students the opportunity to earn transferable college credits while also meeting high school graduation requirements, all for a significantly reduced cost! It values academic excellence, collaboration, and information sharing. At VHCC, our purpose is to promote partnerships with schools, districts, and families to share curricula and high-impact practices, introduce students to college culture, and to help prepare high school students for post-secondary opportunities at VHCC. This is an exceptional opportunity to experience college coursework and earn college credits while completing the requirements for a high school diploma.

VHCC courses are widely transferable to most Virginia public and private colleges, and even some out-of-state schools! Talk to [a VHCC advisor] about where you intend to enroll after high school to make sure that you are choosing the best courses to transfer to your school of choice!

Dual enrollment classes are traditionally offered for 11th and 12th graders. 10th graders can get special permission from their school principal to take dual enrollment courses.

Successful completion of a Dual Enrollment course guarantees college credit. AP courses require students to take an exam upon completion of the course-- colleges award credit for the course based on a student’s exam score. Dual Enrollment courses offer a more streamlined guarantee of being awarded college credit.

Yes! We offer both a General Studies certificate (equivalent to one year of college) and a General Studies degree (equivalent to two years of college) for motivated high school students!

Are you motivated? Are you an independent learner? Have you taken honors classes successfully? Dual Enrollment courses could be a good fit for you! Talk to your high school counselor to determine the best plan for you.
