DAVE COLLINS

Hello, my name is David Collins. I am an associate professor of economics at Virginia Highlands Community College. I grew up in a little town named Narberth, located west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After undergraduate studies in economics at Lehigh University and Washington College, I earned an MA in economics from Pennsylvania State University. I started teaching at VHCC in 1970, the very first year for VHCC in its present location. I can honestly say that I enjoy teaching and look forward to each new day in the classroom.

I am married to Schery Lodter Collins who teaches mathematics at VHCC. We have five children (all college graduates), and three grandchildren, with one on the way. Schery and I love spending time with our family and were most happy to be able to celebrate the 60th wedding aniversary of Schery's parents on Thanksgiving day, 2000. In this picture taken on Thanksgiving day 2000 at our home are: Schery's parents, all our children and their spouses, our three grandchildren, and our dog Beau and cat Kippy.

When not teaching, Schery and I enjoy playing tennis, mountain biking, taking family vacations, and boating on the South Holston Lake. My personal hobbies include gardening and landscaping around our home located on five acres in the knobs, as well as playing the piano.
