Statement for for Serving Students with Disabilities
To support the educational pursuits of persons with disabilities in
our service area, it is the mission of Virginia Highlands Community
College to 1) disseminate information to increase awareness of
services available to persons with disabilities, 2) assist with the
matriculation of persons with disabilities into the college
environment, 3) develop and implement disability -related support
services which promote the educational and personal development of
persons with disabilities by networking with campus and community
based resources, and 4) assist with the successful integration of
persons with disabilities into continued educational activities
and/or the world of work.
Students with learning or physical disabilities are eligible to
receive in-class and other accommodations. Students must
self-identify themselves to the Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA)/504Coordinator at the College and provide documentation by a
medical doctor, certified evaluator or documentation from your high
school if it is no more than 5 years old. Documentation must support
the kind of accommodations received by the student. SSS works
cooperatively with the ADA/504 Coordinator in the service delivery
of these accommodations.
It is the student's responsibility to communicate his or her needs
