Objectives

Mission

  • Identify qualified youths with the potential for education at the postsecondary level and encourage such youths to complete secondary school and undertake a program of postsecondary education
  • Publicize the availability of student financial assistance to persons who wish to pursue a program of postsecondary education.
  • Encourage persons who have not completed programs of education at the secondary or postsecondary level, but who have the ability to complete such programs, to re-enter an appropriate educational program.

Program Objectives

  • Identify, select, and serve 700 eligible participants:
    • Two-thirds (2/3) of enrolled participants must be low-income and potential first-generation college students.
  • Conduct academic skill building seminars at each targeted school: 
    • These programs are designed to improve participants' motivation and academic performance. Topics include: study skills, time management, test-taking, communication, listening, and personal development.
  • Provide tutoring services to middle and high school participants:
    • Tutoring is provided for middle and high school participants. In September of each program year, students already experiencing academic problems will be referred. Participants who earn a "C" or below grade in a subject may be referred. The grades of participants receiving tutoring will be reviewed to determine who needs continued assistance.
  • Visit colleges & participate in a college readiness activity:
    • Each year, all school age participants have the opportunity to visit a college and participate in a college readiness activity.
  • Career awareness for middle school participants:
    • Each year, a career awareness component is implemented for all middle school participants. 6th grade - tour a local business; 7th grade - meet with a mentor twice a year; and 8th grade - attend a career fair.
  • Assist senior participants in creating a post-graduation plan:  
    • By December of a participant's senior year, their ETS Advisor assists him/her in creating a post-graduation plan.
  • Parents receive ETS information: 
    • All parents of the school-age participants receive information about ETS Program activities and the benefits to their child(ren).
  • Distribute financial aid applications to all senior and re-entry participants:
    • Each program year, financial aid applications are distributed to all senior and re-entry participants.
  • Re-entry participant services:  
    • Educational and career guidance is provided to all eligible participants who wish to re-enter a postsecondary educational program.
