Begin by completing the VHCC Application, which is available online at www.vhcc.edu/apply. If you need assistance with completing the application or have questions, please contact Student Services at (276)739-2438 between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Contact your high school and any colleges you have attended outside of the Virginia Community College System to arrange for official transcripts to be sent to VHCC Student Services, P.O. Box 828, Abingdon, VA, 24212.
Apply for Financial Assistance
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you need assistance with completing the application or have questions regarding Scholarships, please contact the VHCC Financial Aid Office at (276) 739-2411 between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. After hours you may call (276) 739 – 2555 and speak with a Financial Aid representative. If you have questions regarding Veterans Benefits contact the Veterans Officer at (276) 739-2460.
Complete Placement Testing
If your program requires placement testing, you will need to complete the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) for math and English. It is recommended that you prepare for the test by reviewing the online study guide available at www.vhcc.edu/placement. Students who have taken the SAT or ACT within the past two years or have completed college level math or English at another college/university may be exempt from placement testing. If you have questions, contact Student Services at (276) 739-2438. When you are ready to take the test, contact the VHCC Testing Center at (276) 739-2476 to schedule an appointment.
Attend a Coaching Session & Meet with an Academic Counselor
During your Coaching Session you will explore your career goals, and learn more about attending VHCC. After you have completed placement testing and Coaching Session, you are ready to meet with an Academic Counselor to review the results of your testing and enroll in classes. Please contact Student Services at (276) 739-2438 to schedule a Coaching Session and Academic Counselor appointment.
Attend New Student Orientation (NSO)
New Student Orientation is a half-day event that is required for incoming students before Fall and Spring classes begin. During this event, students will take a campus tour, receive information about a wide variety of programs and services available on campus, and be introduced to concepts that promote student success.
