National Day of Service

To honor the victims and brave first responders of the terrorist attacks of 9/11, VHCC is proud to take part in the federally recognized National Day of Service this September. The Student Government Association (SGA) is sponsoring the event which encourages VHCC students, employees and Abingdon community members to participate in service projects.

Two service projects are being scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, September 13 and all students and employees are encouraged to participate. Register Today!

  • Feeding America Food Bank (Abingdon, VA) – sort donated food to ensure the food is safe and consumable
  • Appalachian Sustainable Development (Abingdon, VA) – Help improve the walking trail between EB Stanley Middle School and Abingdon High School by installing turf and gravel.

Hunger Games Food Collection - Saturday, September 28, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., VHCC Campus 
Numerous games including a cornhole tournament, sack race, hay ride, and more. Open to the entire community. Free food (with admission). Admission is 3 cans of food or $3 per person. Day of Remembrance and Blood Drive - Wednesday, September 11
In remembrance of 9/11, we ask that the campus wear red, white and blue clothing. A blood mobile will be on campus from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. in the MEC parking lot.
