Fall 2014 - Tuesday, August 19

STEP is a day-long event designed to help you and other new students get started on the right path. During STEP, you’ll have an opportunity to meet your faculty advisor, take a campus tour, receive information about the programs and services available on campus, and ask any questions you may have.

  • Attend a Group Faculty Advising Session. Please refer to the Group Faculty Advising Sessions for the designated meeting time for each program of study. If you haven’t chosen a program or aren’t quite sure, please feel free to attend any session.
  • Take a campus tour. Tours begin at 9 a.m. and leave every half hour from the Wolves’ Den. The final tour begins at 1 p.m.
  • Get a student ID. Free IDs are made at the Circulation Desk of the VHCC Library, which is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Purchase books & other supplies for classes. The VHCC Bookstore is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Attend an Informational Session. Tables displaying information will be available in the Wolves’ Den from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 5-6 p.m. Learn more about financial aid, student clubs and activities, discounts available to VHCC students, career development services, tutoring services, Project EXCEL, the VHCC Library, and Informational Technology services like Blackboard, email and the VHCC Help Desk.

TRA/Trade Act Information Session
9 a.m. in ISC-105

Students who qualify for benefits provided through TRA or Trade Act are invited to attend a special session that will include a review of everything you need to know while enrolled.

Family and Friends
11 a.m. in ISC-105

Because starting college is a big step, a special session has been planned to help friends and family members learn about the demands students face as they make the transition and what they can do to provide the appropriate support.

Students enrolled in an SDV (Orientation Course) for Fall 2014
may count their participation in STEP as a required student activity or receive extra credit.
Please talk to your SDV instructor for details.
