Destination Green

Rain Barrel Design Competition

Step 1: Submit your best design on the Rain Barrel Competition Form. Approximate dimensions: 35'x72'
Step 2: If your design wins, you will receive a rain barrel to paint.
Step 3: Decorate your rain barrel with your winning design.

A rain barrel is a plastic container that catches water runoff from roofs that would otherwise be lost to runoff and diverted to storm drains, streams, and lakes. The rain barrel sits under a gutter down spout and stores the rainwater for later use to water plants and gardens. In an effort to conserve water, Destination Green is teaming up with Buildings & Grounds to install rain barrels around campus. But we don’t want just any plain old rain barrel. We are seeking artists to put their talents to work turning our boring barrels into works of art to be placed throughout campus.

How the Contest Works

Create a design on the Rain Barrel Competition Form and if it’s picked by our judges, you’ll have the opportunity to recreate your art on an actual rain barrel, donated to the college by Coca-Cola. We’ll also throw in paints and supplies for you to paint your masterpiece. Depending on the number of entries, the rain barrel may be placed around campus or auctioned off by Destination Green as a club fundraiser.
