Welcome to Project Excel, a Student Support Services Program through the U.S. Department of Education, TRIO Programs. Project EXCEL is a comprehensive academic support program for Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) students.
Project EXCEL serves 210 eligible students each academic year. Ideally, students apply to the program in the Fall of their freshman year. We do accept applications from VHCC students at any time for consideration.
College can be very challenging; that is why Project EXCEL provides academic support activities that make it possible for participants to successfully complete his or her associate's degree program here at VHCC. Activities such as tutoring, training in study tactics and strategies, counseling in time managment, and many other support services ensure that participants have the best chance to graduate.
A large component of our support services focus on successful transfer to a senior college or university. For that reason, the majority of EXCEL participants are pursuing transfer degrees or other degrees that incorporate transfer classes (i.e. allied health programs, human services, police science).
Visit the links on the left to learn more about applying to EXCEL and about our services. If you have questions or don't find what you are looking for on our website, please contact us.
We look forward to walking with you on your journey!
