In order to participate in The Excel Center, students at VHCC must demonstrate an academic need for services and meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a first-generation college student. This means that neither parent earned a four-year college degree.
  • Be classified as low income. To qualify, your annual taxable income must not exceed 150% of the poverty level as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Have a documented physical or learning disability.

Students who qualify for the program receive free tutoring, counseling, mentoring and transfer counseling. See The Excel Center Services for more details.


Students must complete The Excel Center application to participate.  Stop by The Excel Center to pick up an application or download and print the application.  Your social security number is required to access services. We cannot process your application without a valid social security number.
