Vice President, Financial and Administrative Services

The Vice President of Financial and Administrative Services serves as the college’s chief business, finance and administrative services officer and as a member of the President’s administrative staff.

Position Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree in business, finance or a related field required. Additional credentials preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fiscal resources and perform financial planning, oversight and analysis.
  • Extensive knowledge of public funds accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop policies and procedures; develop and implement strategic planning initiatives; and conduct evaluations and assessments of college services.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct college-wide administrative, facility management and financial functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a professional staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technological resources and knowledge of fiscal and administrative software.
  • Strong interpersonal, management, organizational, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and belief in the comprehensive mission of community colleges.

Police Officer

Hourly position scheduled to work 30 hours per week. No fringe benefits. Anticipated rate of pay is $13.00 to $14.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:  Provides a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors of Virginia Highlands Community College. Patrols the College grounds for safety, security and traffic control. Responds to all reports concerning injury, damage, crime or traffic accidents. Provides assistance to motorists and emergency victims. Maintains traffic and/or crowd control. Completes incident reports in a timely fashion. Provides good public relations. Maintains records in an accurate manner and collects and files crime statistics. Directs visitors and gives information. Issues parking decals. Assists in performing safety inspections and conducting emergency drills. Utilizes technology to include computer, email, security cameras, two-way radios, proximity lock system and software, digital camera and other equipment/systems as applicable.

Qualifications:  Position requires possession of Basic Law Enforcement certificate from Department of Criminal Justice Services and extensive knowledge of police procedures. Additional areas of required knowledge include: safety and first aid; emergency procedures and NIMS; security technology; and computer usage. Position requires ability to remain calm and decisive in stressful situations and ability to communicate clearly with good interpersonal skills. Ability to perform duties in a professional, effective and efficient manner required. Must be able to work well in a team environment. Must be able to maintain a high level of ethics and confidentiality. First aid/first responder and CPR certification required. Combination of work experience and education equivalent to an associate’s degree required. Valid driver’s license required.

Nursing Faculty - Simulation Laboratory (SimLab) Coordinator

Assigned to Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon, VA to work directly with the Virginia Appalachian Tricollege Nursing Program Dean and with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Grant Administrator/Project Director to establish and operate the simulation technology lab.

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  2. Two years recent, related clinical experience required.
  3. Theoretical knowledge, and clinical expertise associated with clinical simulations and computer assisted learning required.
  4. A minimum of one year experience in facilitating simulations preferred. It will be vital that this coordinator has the ability to facilitate, write, and program simulations into simulations. This individual will have knowledge of SimMan®, SimBaby™, and Noelle™ Birthing and Maternal Simulator.
  5. Successful teaching experience at the community college level preferred.
  6. Candidates must be proficient in oral and written communication in the English language.
  7. Demonstrated understanding and belief in the comprehensive mission of community colleges.

Responsibilities:
  1. Participate and work with faculty in the development, implementation, and integration of simulations in the curriculum.
  2. Serve as faculty to students in teaching scenario/ learning situations of nursing skills, simulations, and debriefing sessions.
  3. Train faculty, support staff and students in simulation technology.
  4. Provide instructional support in the simulation lab for students and faculty to improve competencies and skills in meeting the course objectives.
  5. Develop and conduct evaluation of the effectiveness of simulation technology.
  6. Schedule and coordinate simulation activities for each nursing course.
  7. Stay current with the latest developments in simulation technology and learning theory.
  8. Maintain and update simulation lab to include, but not limited to: identifying software updates, supply and equipment needs, monitoring the simulation equipment, and troubleshooting and solving problems.
  9. Maintain records of all simulation activities including: number of students participating, number of partners participating, documentation forms, and video data.
  10. Communicate with partner liaisons to coordinate simulations for their employees.
  11. Maintain the simulation lab and coordinates lab activities to include: inventories and maintaining of supplies, anticipate supplies needed for courses before course and get supplies, maintain operation of the manikins and equipment, keep lab neat and organized.
  12. Mentor the adjunct faculty working in the simulation lab.
  13. Perform the scheduling of staff for the simulation lab.
  14. Advise students on curriculum and career goals.
  15. Participate in development of new courses as required.
  16. Teach courses via distance learning media.
  17. Maintain ten office hours per week.
  18. Serve on college/program committees.
  19. Establish and assess student outcomes and participate in Institutional Effectiveness initiatives to include assessment and program reviews.
  20. Participate in college, community and professional activities.
  21. Pursue professional growth and development activities in discipline.

Energy Technology Full-Time Faculty Position

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Technology or a related field from a regionally accredited institution required or Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology or a related field with a minimum of two years relevant occupational experience required.
  • Hands-on experience in the installation, power distribution, and controls for power generation systems, including photovoltaic and thermal solar power, wind power, fuel cell fundamentals, and geothermal applications required.
