Campus crime statistics are reported annually to the Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) of the U.S. Department of Education and are posted in detail on the OPE web site. Campus crime statistics include data regarding criminal offenses, arrests, and hate offenses at on-campus locations, non-campus sites, and public property that is on or adjacent to the campus. VHCC currently does not have any non-campus sites. The following synopsis includes all on-campus and adjacent public property crime incidents reported to the OPE for the years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011
Criminal Offenses: This category includes the following: murder/non-negligent manslaughter; forcible sex offenses (including forcible rape); non-forcible sex offenses; robbery; aggravated assault; burglary; motor vehicle theft; arson; and negligent manslaughter.
Arrests and Disciplinary Actions/Judicial Referrals: This category includes the following: liquor law violations, drug law violations; and illegal weapon possessions.
Hate Offenses: Hate offenses are defined as a crime against a person or property motivated by bias toward race, religion, ethnicity/national origin, disability, or sexual orientation and include the following: murder/non-negligent manslaughter; aggravated assault; all forcible sex offenses, including forcible rape; arson; negligent manslaughter; and simple assault.
