Abingdon, Va. – Two local colleges are making it easier for students to obtain their degree. Emory & Henry College has adopted a Guaranteed Admission Agreement that enhances transfer opportunities for qualified graduates of Virginia Highlands Community College.
The agreement allows VHCC graduates who earn an Associate of Arts & Sciences Degree with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher to transfer all earned credits and be admitted to Emory & Henry with junior status. The agreement was signed Friday by VHCC President Ron Proffitt and President Rosalind Reichard of Emory & Henry College and is effective immediately.
“Emory & Henry has always been a smart choice for our transfer students who were interested in pursuing a strong liberal arts education,” Dr. Proffitt said. “We’re excited about this agreement because it eases the transition, allowing our students to enter Emory & Henry as juniors and immediately begin working toward a bachelor’s degree. ”
Emory & Henry’s liberal arts curriculum spans more than 26 programs of study, including interdisciplinary programs, which allows students to combine classes from more than one subject area to create a more specialized major. The college is consistently ranked among the nation’s best private liberal arts institutions.
“More and more, we are seeing the path to a bachelor’s degree beginning at a community college,” said E&H President Rosalind Reichard. “This agreement helps make the opportunity for students to transfer to Emory & Henry College easier to understand.”
The agreement is the latest in a long list of Guaranteed Admission Agreements that VHCC has with public and private colleges and universities. Under these agreements, qualified VHCC graduates are guaranteed acceptance to Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia, Radford, Old Dominion, and many other four-year institutions in Virginia and elsewhere.
