Beginning Motorcycle Riding, an extended weekend course that provides two physical education credits, is being offered this summer at VHCC. The next class will start July 12 at 5 p.m.

Talented students with artistic experience are invited to earn college credit this summer while working on a mural in downtown Abingdon.

VHCC is pleased to offer a three-day Renewable Energy Academy for local teachers that will include both classroom instruction and field trips. The academy has been designed specifically for those currently teaching science, technology, engineering and math, and will include information that can be incorporated into your curriculum.

Virginia Highlands Community College is pleased to announce the 2013 top ten winners of the Richard Leigh Songwriters Contest.

Plans are currently being made for a Hot Shot competition in the fall that will test the shooting prowess of law enforcement officers throughout the region, and a special award will be given to the VHCC Alumni Hot Shot.

The David Mayfield Parade has joined the lineup of Nashville songwriters and local talents who will perform this Saturday at the Richard Leigh Songwriters’ Festival at Virginia Highlands Community College.

Graduating student Erika Cashwell and Leah Bolling Ross, a 1974 graduate who now serves as executive director of Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion and The Birthplace of Country Music Alliance, will serve as guest speakers for the 2013 Commencement Ceremony at Virginia Highlands Community College on Friday, May 10.
