Apply for Admission
Begin by completing the VCCS application. Computers are available in the VHCC Admissions Office, ISC-133, and staff members are available to answer questions. You may also contact the Admissions Office by phone If you do not have computer access or have questions contact the Admissions Office, (276)739-2414.
If you are applying for a Nursing & Allied Health program, complete the Medical Program Application and review the admission process for the program you are interested in.
Request official copies of High School & College transcripts be sent to VHCC Admissions Office, P.O. Box 828, Abingdon, VA 24212. If you are transferring credits from other colleges, you will also need to complete the Submit the Transcript Evaluation Request Form.
Apply for Financial Assistance
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov If you need assistance or have questions about Veterans Benefits or Tobacco Scholarships, please contact the VHCC Financial Aid at (276)739-2555. For information about private scholarships available through the VHCC Educational Foundation please call (276)739-2449.
Complete Placement Testing
After you have submitted an application to the College you are required to take placement tests in math and English, which includes sections on reading & writing. The results of these tests will determine which courses you are eligible to enroll in at VHCC. It is recommended that each student review for the placement tests at www.vhcc.edu/placementguide before testing. To register for placement testing, call the Testing Center at(276) 739-2476.
With appropriate documentation, students who took the ACT or SAT tests and achieved the required scores or have completed college level math or English at other colleges and universities may be exempt from placement testing. Please contact the Student Success Center at (276)739-2438 for information or questions regarding exemption.
Complete the Online Preview
Complete the online preview. This is a web-based introduction to VHCC. It is a required component of Orientation (SDV courses), and should be completed before you meet with an academic counselor. Access the Online Preview at www.vhcc.edu/preview. If you need assistance, please contact the Student Success Center at (276)739-2438.
Attend Transition Session
After you have completed the Online Preview and placement testing, you are ready to meet with an academic counselor. During this meeting, you will review the results of the placement tests, explore career goals, and enroll in classes for the first semester. Please contact the Student Success Center to schedule your appointment, (276)739-2438.
Attend New Student Orientation (NSO)
Attendance is required for all new students and space in each session is limited. Please register today to reserve a seat in the session of your choice. All sessions will meet in the LRC in room 105, Keyser-Aday Theatre
During these special sessions, all new students and their parents/guardians will receive an introduction to the VHCC campus and learn what it takes to be successful in college. We’ll show you around, answer your questions, and provide tips to get you ready for a great semester.

Enroll in Orientation
All new students are required to take Orientation (also referred to Student Development, SDV) the first semester. The course provides important information that will help you be successful at VHCC. Check the class schedule for class times.
