Acclaimed National Geographic photographer James Balog was once a skeptic about climate change. But through his Extreme Ice Survey, he discovers the undeniable evidence of our changing planet. Balog uses revolutionary time-lapse cameras to capture the multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers. His hauntingly beautiful videos compress years into seconds and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion as they disappear at a breathtaking rate.

Virginia Highlands Community College invites you to attend the award winning film Chasing Ice. Filmmakers follow glaciers in Greenland, Alaska, and Montana documenting their unprecedented melting. Chasing Ice provides concrete evidence of climate change while presenting facts in an entertaining manner. The largest known chunk of ice to break off a glacier and fall into the sea was documented in this film which has been described as the best film footage of the artic environment to ever be released.
