Apply for Admission 
Complete an online VCCS application.  If you do not have computer access or have questions contact the Admissions Office, (276)739-2460 or (276)739-2508, ISC 133.

If you are applying for a Nursing & Allied Health program, complete the Medical Program Application and review the admission process for the program you are interested in.

Provide Transcripts
Request official copies of High School & College transcripts be sent to VHCC Admissions Office. Submit the
Transcript Evaluation Request Form to the Admissions Office to transfer credits from other colleges.

Financial Assistance
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov   Questions? Contact Financial Aid at (276)739-2555, ISC 128.   Also Available - Veterans Benefits (276)739-2460, Tobacco Grant (276)739-2529 and VHCC Educational Foundation Scholarships (276)739-2473.

Complete Placement Testing
After you have submitted an application to the College you are required to take COMPASS placement tests in English (reading & writing) and math. The results of these tests will determine which courses you are eligible to enroll in at VHCC. It is recommended that each student review the COMPASS Placement Testing Guide available at www.vhcc.edu/placementguide before testing. Visit the VHCC COMPASS Testing page for additional resources.  To register for placement testing, call the Learning Lab (276)739-2476.

With appropriate documentation, students who took the ACT or SAT tests and achieved the required scores or have completed college level math or English at other colleges and universities may be exempt from placement testing. Refer to the COMPASS Placement Testing Guide for more information. If you have questions, contact the Student Success Center at (276)739-2438.

Online Preview
Complete the online preview. This is a web-based introduction to VHCC. It is a required component of Orientation (SDV courses), and should be completed before each student meets with an academic counselor. Access the Online Preview at www.vhcc.edu/preview.

Transition Session
Meet with the appropriate academic counselor for your program of study. This should be done after placement testing and the Online Preview have been completed. During this session placement tests will be interpreted, a faculty advisor will be assigned and first semester classes will be scheduled. Contact the Student Success Center to schedule your appointment, (276)739-2438.

Faculty Advising/Enrollment Days
Meet with your assigned faculty advisor (identified in your Transition Session) and finish the enrollment process. An opportunity will be provided to meet the week before classes begin. Check the academic calendar for exact dates.

STEP (Success. Transition. Education. Progression)
STEP is a program designed to help incoming students get started on the right path. STEP is intended to foster student success by introducing students to their faculty advisor, providing a campus tour, and visiting information tables by many departments designed to answer all questions. This one-day event is held the week before classes begin (fall and spring semesters). For more information visit www.vhcc.edu/step.

Orientation
Enroll in Orientation (Student Development, SDV). Each student is required to take this course during the first semester. Check the class schedule for days and times.
