Apply
Begin by completing the VHCC Application, which is available online at www.vhcc.edu/apply. Computers are available in VHCC Student Services, ISC-128, and staff members are available to answer questions. You may also contact Student Services by phone at (276) 739-2529. Students interested in enrolling in allied health programs also need to complete the Medical Programs Application available online at www.vhcc.edu/medapp.

Provide Transcripts
Contact your high school and any colleges you have attended to arrange for official transcripts to be sent to VHCC Student Services, P.O. Box 828, Abingdon, VA, 24212. If you are transferring credits from other colleges, you will also need to complete the Transcript Evaluation Request Form.

Apply for Financial Assistance
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you need assistance or have questions about Veterans Benefits or Tobacco Scholarships, please contact the VHCC Financial Aid Office at (276) 739-2555. For information about private scholarships available through the VHCC Educational Foundation, please call (276) 739-2449.

Complete Placement Testing
After applying, all students must take a placement test in math and English, which includes sections on reading and writing. The results will determine which classes you may take your first semester and, therefore, you should take this test very seriously. It is recommended that you prepare for the test by reviewing the online study guide available at www.vhcc.edu/placementguide. When you are ready to take the test, contact the VHCC Testing Center at (276) 739-2476 to schedule an appointment. Students who took the SAT or ACT or completed math or English at another college/university may be exempt from placement testing. Please contact Student Services at (276) 739-2529 for additional information.

Complete the Online Preview
The Online Preview is a web-based introduction to VHCC that can be accessed at www.vhcc.edu/preview. It is a required component of Orientation (SDV) courses and should be completed before you meet with an academic counselor. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the Student Services at (276) 739-2529.

Attend Transition Session
After you have completed the Online Preview and placement testing, you are ready to meet with an academic counselor. During this meeting, you will review the results of the placement test, explore career goals, and enroll in classes for the first semester. Please contact the Student Services at (276) 739-2529 to schedule an appointment.

Attend New Student Orientation (NSO)
New Student Orientation is a one-day event held for incoming students before Fall and Spring classes begin. During this event, students will take a campus tour, receive information about a wide variety of programs and services available on campus, and be introduced to concepts that promote student success. Enroll in Orientation
All new students are required to take the Student Development course (also referred to as SDV) the first semester.
The course provides important information that will help you be successful at VHCC. You may check the class schedule at www.vhcc.edu/schedule for class times.
