Glenn DuBois, chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges, announced today that Dr. Gene C. Couch, Jr., of Burlington, N.C. will become the 6th president of Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) beginning July 1.

If the end of the semester has you a little frazzled, take time to unwind at the annual Graduation Celebration on Wednesday, May 14, about 5:30 (or immediately after graduation practice) on the Campus Commons. All graduating students and their family members are invited to attend, so this is a great time for all faculty and staff to offer congratulations and well wishes. Live music will be provided by Ivy Road and BBQ will be served.

Community members were invited to the campus of Virginia Highlands Community College on Wednesday, May 7, for an open forum featuring Dr. Gene C. Couch Jr., a finalist for the job of VHCC President. The forum was held in the Keyser-Aday Theatre in the Learning Resources Center (LRC) at 3 p.m. and included a presentation by Dr. Couch and a question/answer session.

Community members interested in earning an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Technology at Virginia Highlands Community College will have the option this fall of completing core requirements through day or evening classes, then choosing specialized courses to fit their specific career goals.

The State Board for Community Colleges has certified an additional finalist for the position of president at Virginia Highlands Community College. Virginia Highlands will continue interviews at the community college; VCCS Chancellor Glenn DuBois hopes to make an appointment later in May. The appointee will replace Dr. Ron E. Proffitt, who retires this year after four years with Virginia Highlands.
