Thank you for your interest in SDV 106, Preparation for Employment which will next be offered as a distance class.  This class is not recommended for first year students. This is for students who are close to graduating and either neglected to take a SDV class earlier or are interested in preparing to job search.

Please note, while this class will be taught primarily through Blackboard there are some required activities such as attending a career fair and conducting an informational interview. Students who register for this class must be computer literate and self-disciplined.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Conduct a successful job search using a variety of sources
  • Write a resume
  • Write a cover letter and thank you letter
  • Complete a job application
  • Demonstrate appropriate professional dress
  • Effectively interview for a position
  • Formulate a network
  • Determine short and long term career goals
  • Demonstrate leadership and professional etiquette
  • Enjoy on the job success

On the first day of classes you will be able to access the class Blackboard site where you will find the class syllabus and information on the required assignments.
