Virginia Highlands Community College has established a partnership with the local service board, Highlands Community Services (HCS), to provide quick and efficient mental health services to VHCC students. Highlands Community Services provides services for students who have mental health concerns that warrant immediate and ongoing treatment. During the 2009-2010 school year, HCS will not have a representative on campus but will continue to be a resource for the college. Michael Hayter is serving as the Highlands Community Services liaison to the college. Jackie Craft serves as the college’s liaison to Highlands Community Services. Together, they try to determine what types of services and what method of intake and collaboration is best for the student.
Faculty may contact Michael Hayter at mhayter@highlandscsb.org; mhayter1@vhcc.edu; or at his HSC work number: (276) 525-1418. Jackie Craft is located on campus and can be found in Room 120 in the ISC building (Monday - Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) or contacted at (276) 739-2561 or email jcraft@vhcc.edu.
If the concern of the student is critical he or she should go (or be taken) to the emergency room at the nearest hospital or call the HCS Access line and tell the operator that there is a crisis
