Ribbon Cutting Planned for VHCC’s Eco-Friendly Coffee Shop
Posted Date: 1/22/2013
Virginia Highlands Community College will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, January 24, at 10 a.m. for Wolf Grounds Coffee Shop, a student-operated venture that is ecologically friendly and partially powered with renewable energy provided by windmills and solar panels.

Wolf Grounds is located on the first floor of the Learning Resources Center (LRC) adjacent to Keyser-Aday Theatre and was made possible through a $30,000 grant from Dominion Power Co. Students responsible for the initial planning, management, accounting, marketing and inventory of Wolf Grounds will be joined at the ribbon-cutting ceremony by Jason Corvin, an adjunct instructor who will provide oversight and guidance.

In addition to renewable energy, Wolf Grounds will use organically grown products, energy efficient appliances, and recyclable paper products. The shop will serve as a hands-on learning project for members of ENACTUS, a nationally recognized student entrepreneurship club, and as a business incubator for students enrolled in a three-credit entrepreneurship class taught by Corvin.
