The economy is one of the biggest issues facing America today. You and the VHCC ENACTUS Team have the power to change this by participating in The Chain Gang Recycle project sponsored by Northeast Correctional Facility.
Most of us have fond memories of receiving our first bike, and the independence and fun it gave us. You can help other children locally by recycling your used bike.
All sizes are needed - tricycles, 10 speed, 12 speed, 21 speed, mountain bikes, toddler, teen and adult bikes. Please donate your used bikes.
Inmates at the prison have helped set up their own workshop to repair and refurbish secondhand bikes which then are donated back to local families in the community who are in need. The benefit for ENACTUS, of course, is that the bikes collected are to be donated back to the community, but for the inmates it’s about work opportunities. Inmates refurbish up to 200 bicycles a year that otherwise would have landed in the landfill. ENACTUS can work with the prisoners to create change, both in their lives and in the system that has incarcerated them – the bikes are the agents of that change. This project will instill self-respect and pride in the inmates and will help prepare them in their return to normal life.
Prison support projects have a very difficult time with funding, which is why ENACTUS is participating in the collection of used bicycles in conjunction with the Northeast Correctional Facility, located in Mt. City, TN.
Collection Dates and Drop Off Location
ENACTUS will collect used bikes until November 1. Please drop bikes off at Virginia Highlands Community College in the Buildings and Grounds Facility outside the Greenhouse.
