Evening Services

Administrative functions of the College are provided to students who attend classes after 5 pm through the Evening Services Office, located in Room 207 of the Instruction and Student Center Building (ISC). Services are available from 5:00-6:30 pm, Monday - Thursday.

Through this office, students may:  Add or drop a course, Enroll in classes and receive assistance with questions regarding admission requirements, Pay Tuition
Receive current information about the College, Receive assistance in contacting Campus Police.

Guaranteed Admissions Agreement

Through system-wide negotiated agreements, students who graduate from Virginia Highlands Community College with an associate's degree and a minimum grade point average are guaranteed admission to 23 of the Commonwealth's four-year colleges and universities. Refund Policy

Students who drop an Intersession Term by Monday, May 19, those who drop an F Term class by Wednesday, June 11, those who drop an A Term class by Friday, June 6, or those who drop a B Term class by Friday, July 11 are eligible for a refund. All refunds are mailed from the state treasurer’s office in Richmond. Intersession session: students that drop classes within 15% of class meetings will be eligible for a refund.

A student’s continued attendance at the college is dependent upon proper settlement of all debts owed. Should the student fail to satisfy all due and payable amounts, the student may be suspended. No student will be allowed to enroll in any succeeding semester until all current debts have been paid.

Tuition and Fees

The tuition for Summer Semester 2008 is $81.15 per credit hour (subject to change by the State Board of Community Colleges) for those who qualify for in-state tuition and $256.30 per credit hour for out-of-state students. This includes a technology fee of $3.50 per credit hour and a student activity fee of $1 per credit hour. There are no fees for student parking, transcripts or student testing.

To be eligible for in-state tuition rates, students must meet criteria set by the State of Virginia, including documentation of residency within the state for at least one year prior to enrollment.

Through a cooperative arrangement with the state of Tennessee, residents of Tennessee may be entitled to in-state tuition of $84.15 per credit hour at VHCC if they live within 30 miles of the College and are eligible for in-state tuition in Tennessee.

Payment of Tuition and Fees

The Business Office will issue bills for the appropriate tuition to registered students each semester. Failure to receive a bill does not exempt a student from timely payment of all charges.

All accounts, including any previous account balances, must be either paid in full or payment arrangements made before the first day of classes. Payment arrangements consist of the deferred payment plan with FACTS Tuition Management Company, third party sponsors, secured student financial aid or a combination of these options.

Failure to pay the full balance or make satisfactory payment within the first week of the semester will result in cancellation of registration for the semester.

VHCC accepts Visa, MasterCard and personal check for the payment of tuition and fees. Any checks that are returned due to insufficient funds will be handled through the VHCC Business Office. The returned check will be held for seven business days for recovery. If payment is not received or recovered in this time period, student classes will be cancelled and a negative service indicator will be recorded preventing the student from receiving services at VHCC.

VHCC FACTS Tuition Management Payment Plan

To help meet educational expenses, VHCC offers the FACTS Tuition Management Payment Plan as a convenient Budget plan. There are no interest or finance charges assessed, and there is no credit check. The cost to budget your interest-free monthly payment plan is noted on the FACTS Tuition Management website, http://www.vhcc.edu/financialaid/ , the cost is a nonrefundable FACTS Enrollment Fee. You may budget your tuition and fees less any awarded financial aid and payment to FACTS may be made either by automatic bank payment (ACH) or by credit card. Payments will be drafted on the 5th of each month. FACTS Tuition Management accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

General Financial Information

Any obligations incurred during the semester must be paid before the semester concludes. No academic credentials (grades, transcripts of record, or diploma) will be issued to the student until all college bills are paid and all required Financial Aid documentation has been completed.

Taxpayer Relief Act

The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 offers tax credits for tuition and fee payments under these conditions. Effective January 1, 1998, those paying tuition and fees may be eligible for up to $1,500 in tax credit under the HOPE Scholarship credit. Only students who are taking at least a half-time load; who are in their first two years of postsecondary education; who are enrolled in degree, certificate, or other programs leading to be recognized educational credential; and who do not have their tuition paid by an employer or through grant aid are eligible.

Transfer Grants

The Transfer Grant makes a four-year college degree more affordable for Virginia Highlands Community College graduates who have financial need (determined by the FAFSA). It provides a $1,000 grant for all eligible students, with an extra $1,000 for students who pursue undergraduate work in engineering, math, nursing, teaching or science. To Access myVHCC

  • Go to www.vhcc.edu/myvhcc

  • On the myVHCC information page, click the Login button.

  • Enter your Username and Password

What information do you need?

  • Username and Emplid

  • Password

  • Completed schedule planner

  • MasterCard or Visa number and expiration date to pay online

What can you do online?

  • Review course availability/status

  • Access personal academic information

  • Enroll for classes

To FIND Your myVHCC Username, EMPLID, or Change/Reset your Password

  • Go to www.vhcc.edu/myvhcc  and click on Login

  • If you are new to the college click on Look up your username and set your password and enter the required information.

  • If you don’t remember your Password, click on the Reset My Password. If you are unable to change to a
    new Password, click the online help request form.

  • For problems with your Username, Password, Email account, or Blackboard send an email to helpdesk@vhcc.edu

NOTE: Your birthdate (MM/DD/YY) is your default password for the first time you enter the Student Information System. You MUST change your default password the first time you login.

 

Add Classes

  • Click on Self Service>Student Center>Add a Class>select term

  • Enter Class Nbr (example 22079) and click Enter, or Search for Class to view the Schedule of Classes

  • After entering all Class Numbers, click Finish Enrolling.

  • View Results of all classes added; a ‘green’ check indicates you successfully enrolled, a ‘red’ "X" indicates you are unable to add this class.

  • Click My Class Schedule to view your class schedule

View My Class Schedule

  • Click Self Service>Student Center>My Class Schedule>select term.

  • Your current class schedule will appear. You may print this page from your browser using File/Print or by clicking on the Print Icon in the Toolbar of your browser.

Search for a Class

  • Click Self Service>Student Center>Search for Classes

  • If you have not set your User Preferences, you will be asked to choose your college name and term.

  • Click Go

  • Enter Course Prefix into the Subject Area box and the Course Number into the Catalog Number box. (i.e. ENG 111)

  • Click Search

Swap Classes

  • Click on Self Service>Student Center>Swap Classes>GO

  • Select a class to swap from

  • Enter Class Nbr of the class you want to swap to.

  • Click Enter button

  • Click Next to Confirm your Selection

  • Click Finish Swapping and then View Results

  • Click My Class Schedule button to view and print a copy of your revised class schedule

Drop Classes

  • Click Self Service>Student Center>Drop a Class

  • If the desired term of classes is not listed, select another term and click Change

  • Your enrolled classes will be listed

  • Select the classes or classes you wish to drop

  • Click the Drop Selected Classes button

  • Confirm your selection and then click Finish Dropping

  • View your results

  • Click My Class Schedule to view and print revised class schedule

  • If you drop a class after the last date to withdraw, the grade automatically becomes an "F" grade

  • If you drop after the last date to add but before the last date to withdraw, you will receive a grade of "W."

  • Be sure to verify whether your grade is "W" or "F" and refer questions to the Registrar’s Office

View My Financial Aid Awards

  • Click Self Service>Student Center>View Financial Aid.

  • Click the desired Aid Year. For 2006-2007 academic year the Aid Year is 2007.

  • You will see anticipated aid which assumes that you are enrolled full-time (12 credits). If you are enrolled less than full time, the anticipated aid will be decreased proportionally to actual aid after the second week of classes.

Make Credit Card Payment

  • Click Self Service>Student Center>Campus Finances>Account Inquiry.

  • Click the Activity tab to view your account activity.

  • Click the Charges Due tab to view total charges due.

  • Click the Payment tab to view posted and pending payments applied to your account

  • Click the Pending Financial Aid tab to view financial aid you have been offered but not yet applied to your account.

  • Click Make a Payment to pay with MasterCard or Visa credit or debit card.

  • In the Credit Card Details First Name and Last Name boxes, type the name as it appears on the credit card.

  • Choose a Credit Card Type - Only VISA and MasterCard are currently accepted.

  • Enter credit card number and expiration date. Do not use dashes in the credit card number.

  • Click Next.

  • Click Pay Charges to pay the full amount due.

  • You have the option of making selective payments for a specific class(es). Use the Calculate Grand Total button to total your selective payments.

  • Click Next.

  • View the Payment Summary to confirm payment.

  • Click Submit.

  • Click View Confirmed Payment button to view and print payment confirmation to retain as documentation.

  • To make a payment by check, instead of online with credit card, you may mail the check to VHCC Business Office (P.O. Box 828 Abingdon, VA 24212)
