The Virginia Highlands Community College Medical Terminology and Disease Process course is a very interesting and thorough overview of the human body and the language medical professionals use in treating disease.

The course is part of the Health Information Technology program but is ideal for any student interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.  This course is designed to help students become competent using the language of medicine in reading and understanding the medical record.

HIT 113-20 Medical Terminology and Disease Process – Part I (3 credits)
This course is designed to introduce students to the language used in the health record by providing an overview of basic human organ system nomenclature and related diseases.  This will include accepted abbreviations, laboratory tests and common medical procedures related to diseases processes.

HIT 114-20 Medical Terminology and Disease Process – Part II (3 credits).
This course is a continuation of HIT 113 and is designed to introduce students to the language used in the health record by providing an overview of basic human organ system nomenclature and related diseases.  This will include accepted abbreviations, laboratory tests and common medical procedures related to disease processes.
