Meet the Artist Mary Munsey

Musician/songwriter Mary Munsey plays saxophone, guitar and keyboard. She is best known for singing with her variety group, Tennessee Green. As a hobby, she has written and performed folk music for many years. She has been honored with two awards for her songwriting. She is currently the choir director, guitar instructor, music appreciation instructor and director of the Old Time String Band at Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon, VA.

Mary has recorded three cd's and won five songwriting awards which include; first place in the Place-Woody Guthrie International Songwriting Competition 2010, third place in the Woody Guthrie Contest 2012, second place in the Place Podunk Bluegrass competition East Hartford CT 2011, third place in the ETSU CASS competiion 1996 and second place in the Wisconsin Songwriting competition 2012.

Mary will be accompanied by bass player and singer Barbara Walton. Barbara is from Chilhowie, VA and is currently the music teacher at Abingdon Elementary school. She often plays fiddle with the VHCC Old Time String Band and bass for several area old time groups.
