CDL Training Program Begins July 23

Post Date:05/31/2018 9:00 AM

A limited number of seats are still available for the six-week Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training Program that begins Monday, July 23, at Virginia Highlands Community College.

VHCC has partnered with Virginia Truck Driving Academy, which is operated by Roger Roe of Roger’s Trucking, to provide the training program.  Jim Moncrief, a longtime employee of Roger’s Trucking, is the course instructor.

Students receive both classroom instruction on the VHCC campus and on-the-road training that teaches them the most effective methods for operating, maintaining, and managing a truck. Those who complete the course are prepared to take the CDL exam offered by the Division of Motor Vehicles. The program was created to fill a need for qualified drivers. It is estimated that 48,000 additional truckers are needed nationwide.

The total cost for the course is $4,000, but grant funds may be available to reduce the actual cost to students.  The CDL program is offered through FastForward, an initiative of Virginia’s Community Colleges to provide short-term training programs that lead to high-demand career opportunities.

For additional information and registration details, please contact the VHCC Division of Workforce Development & Continuing Education at (276) 739-2430. The deadline to register is July 23.
