VHCC Theatre Program to Present “Beyond the Fringe”

Post Date:11/12/2018 8:00 AM
“Beyond the Fringe,” an evening of British satire, parody, and farce, will be presented this week by the Theatre Arts Department at Virginia Highlands Community College.

The play will be performed in the Keyser-Aday Theatre on the VHCC campus at 7:30 each evening from Thursday, November 15, through Saturday, November 17. The final performance will be Sunday, November 18, at 2:30 p.m.

General admission is $5 and tickets are available at the door prior to each performance. Admission is free with a valid VHCC ID or Arts Array pass.

The play’s publisher, Samuel French, Inc., writes: “[The] skits include one about an impassioned preacher whose emotion carries him so far from the text that he can't find his way back. There's a delicious spoof on Shakespeare in beautifully faked speech, and a couple of panel scenes. In one, three experts on nuclear war clobber the subject to death. And these are but samples of a grab bag of highly intellectual fun.”

Daniel Beebe, Richard C. Fleenor, Samuel R. Fleenor, Alex Huyler, Rex Ring, and Mark Preston Stewart have starring roles in this VHCC production, which is directed and designed by Professor Emeritus Gary Aday. Kailey Cregger serves as assistant director and stage manager. Other crew include Tanner Clark and Andrew Price, lighting design; Braden Ring, Reva Raymond, and Cody Sykes, lighting and sound control; Kailey Cregger, Cody Sykes, Kara Keene, Matt Kilby, and Alex Huyler, construction and painting; costumes by Dona Lee; and hair styling by Stephanie “Peaches” Smith with Kara Keene.
