Career event is open to both students and the community-at-large
“This is an excellent opportunity for employers to access the amazing talent in our region,” says Traci Mitchell, VHCC career services specialist. “And, it’s a great reminder to everyone that southwest Virginia offers a lot of excellent opportunities in terms of employment.”
The career fair will feature opportunities for engineers, CAD designers, welders, machinists, EMTs/Paramedics, LPNs, RNs, CNAs, accountants, industrial electricians, foresters, plumbers, painters, environmental service techs, machine operators, assemblers, dispatchers, probation officers and more.
“Companies such as Scholle IPN and Smyth County Machine and Fabrication have announced recent expansions and will be on site recruiting at this event,” said Mitchell. “Many employers will be conducting interviews right here on site.”
With more than 40 employers participating, a selection of employers include: American Merchant, Ballad, Food City, Electro Mechanical Corporation, Volvo Trucks North America, HVAC, Inc., Francis Marion Manor, Grace Healthcare, Abingdon Health and Rehab, General Engineering, and many more. Additionally, the event will include recruiters from the US Marine Corp, Air Force, Army, Navy and Army National Guard.
According to Mitchell, job seekers should come prepared to talk about their skills, qualifications and the value they have to offer employers.
Those who plan to attend the event should register at www.vhcc.edu/careerfair. Registrants will be eligible for door prizes and will have access to a career fair success guide providing tips on how to prepare for the upcoming job event.
All job seekers are encouraged to bring a resume.
“If you don’t have a resume, our VHCC website features a great resume building tool which can be accessed by anyone at www.vhcc.edu/careerexplorer.
