Dental Assisting VHCC According to US News & World Report’s “Best Health Care Jobs of 2019,” there will be plenty of jobs in the next decade for those desiring a career in healthcare support. Equally great news is that these high demand jobs often require two years or less of education and training. The upcoming HealthPRO Expo on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 pm in ISC 130 at Virginia Highlands Community College will highlight what it takes to become a nurse, a practical nurse, a medical assistant, a dental assistant, an EMT, a paramedic, a nurse aide, a phlebotomist or a radiography tech.

“For many who know they want a career in healthcare, they’re anxious to do whatever it takes to enter the job market quickly and land a solid job that pays well,” said Beth Page, dean of professional and technical studies at Virginia Highlands Community College. “Fortunately, for those in our service area, Virginia Highlands has stellar healthcare programs that will accomplish just that.”

The HealthPRO Expo will begin at 6 pm in ISC 130 with an overview of all healthcare career training options offered at VHCC, including a discussion on cost and the availability of financial aid. Following, each program will offer breakout sessions at 6:30 and 7 pm, giving prospective students the opportunity to ask additional questions of program instructors.

“More than 80% of our students receive financial aid,” said Page. “Many will enter our healthcare programs at VHCC receiving full financial aid and then graduate ready to enter the workforce and receive an excellent salary.”

In many instances, students pursing a healthcare support career will receive their educational credential in less than a year. Educational pathways to become a medical assistant or dental assistant, an EMT, a nurse aide and a phlebotomist require two semesters or less.
