Moose Recognized for ScholarshipsABINGDON, Va.Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) recognized the Loyal Order of the Moose of Washington County, Va., during a presentation on Wed., Nov. 6 for contributing more than $180,000 over the past ten years for student scholarships. In addition to scholarship funds, the Loyal Order of the Moose has contributed in support of VHCC’s library and academic mentoring center, which has been renamed the Moose Academic Resource Center.

“We’re grateful for the Order’s commitment to community service and charitable giving, and we particularly thank them for their generous support for scholarships and academic mentoring services for our students,” said Laura Pennington, vice president of Institutional Advancement. “The scholarships and services enabled by the support of the Loyal Order of the Moose impact hundreds of students each year and provide the resources these students need to succeed in college.”

Scholarships are available to eligible full-time students through the VHCC Educational Foundation and are awarded through an application process each spring.

“The Washington County Moose is an incredible organization and its generosity toward our students is well-appreciated,” said Dr. Charlie White, interim president of Virginia Highlands. “The men and women of the Moose work diligently to make a difference right here in our community. They’re certainly making a difference on our campus and in the lives of our students.”

The Moose Academic Resource Center is located in VHCC’s Learning Resource Center and provides free academic mentoring in most subjects. All students currently enrolled in at least one class can schedule face-to-face or online academic mentoring services.
