The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and the Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) Board of Directors are beginning the presidential search process. As part of that process, we will be seeking input from VHCC Stakeholders.

In order to assist with the presidential search process, I am inviting VHCC stakeholders to participate in a presidential search survey. It is important that we receive input from VHCC students, faculty, staff, administrators, retirees, alumni, College Board members, Foundation Board members, community leaders, and community members.

Information obtained from the survey will be used to form a guideline for VHCC and our next President. This information will also serve as a guide to VCCS in creating recruiting materials for the next step of our process. Please take this opportunity to share your vision on how VHCC may continue to grow and provide opportunities in higher education for the students, businesses and localities we serve.

The survey will be available through May 2, 2019.  All responses will be strictly anonymous.  Click on the following link to take the survey:

2019 VHCC Presidential Search Survey

In the upcoming months, the VCCS will be conducting a national search for VHCC’s next president. A search committee will be appointed by the Chancellor. The chair and co-chair of the committee will be VCCS presidents. Other members include representatives from VCCS colleges who have expertise in a variety of areas, as well as three local VHCC board members.  The committee’s primary responsibilities will include 1) reviewing and screening, and evaluating credentials and application materials of potential candidates; 2) selecting candidates for interviews; 3) interviewing candidates; and 4) recommending semi-finalists for consideration.

A typical presidential service involves the top several candidates visiting Richmond for a formal interview and presentation, including meeting with the Chancellor and his Cabinet.  Three or four finalists will be selected to be vetted by an independent firm for certification by the Virginia State Board for Community Colleges. The finalists will then be invited to VHCC to visit with various constituency groups.

Thank you again for your time participating in our Presidential Search Survey and providing valuable input as we start the search process.

On behalf of the Virginia Highlands Community College Board, I would like to express appreciation to the Interim President Charlie White for his leadership at VHCC during the presidential search process.

Best regards,

Catherine D. Brillhart, Board Chair
