Welcome Dr. Hutchison

Virginia Highlands Community College will host three welcome receptions throughout the college’s service area to welcome its new president, Dr. Adam Hutchison. The drop-in events are open to the community-at-large. Light refreshments will be served.

“In the short time I’ve been here, I have met many people who have great stories to tell of their experiences with Virginia Highlands,” said Hutchison. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity of seeing new faces and hearing more stories as I continue to broaden connections in the community.”

Hutchison comes to Virginia Highlands with nearly 20 years of higher education experience in a variety of faculty and administrative positions, most recently serving as the provost of Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas. Experienced in quality enhancement planning, competency-based learning, workforce development and project management in higher education, Hutchison has served on advisory councils and committees for workforce and education issues for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Workforce Commission. In 2018, he was appointed to the Texas Workforce Investment Council by Texas Governor Greg Abbot.
Hutchison holds an associate and bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina (aviation); a master’s degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia (management); and a doctorate from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia (education). He and his wife, Naomi, have four children and two grandchildren.
