Scholarships For Students

The 2024 Scholarship Application will open on January 15, 2024.  Applications must be received in the Foundation Office by May 15, 2024. Late applications or incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • Applicants must have officially applied to VHCC in order for the scholarship application site to be available to them. 
  • One application allows the student to be considered for all of the scholarships available through the Educational Foundation.
  • Only those students enrolled to VHCC by May 15, 2024 will be considered for scholarships.
  • Scholarships are awarded for fall and spring semesters but are not available for the summer semester.
  • Scholarship awards are based on the availability of funds and the criteria set forth by the appropriate governing body. All awards are subject to change.
  • Unless otherwise stated, scholarships are awarded only to full-time students.
  • Unless otherwise stated, scholarships are not renewed automatically.
  • Students applying for scholarships must submit the FAFSA no later than May 15, 2024 to be considered for a scholarship. (www.fafsa.ed.gov).

  • The VHCC Educational Foundation will notify scholarship applicants regarding the decision regarding their application no later than July 2024.

 Special notes: 

  • High school students who have completed the requirements for AIMS at their school (Washington County Community Scholars, Smyth County AIMS, or Bristol Citizens in Action) will be given priority consideration for the Highlands Scholars Scholarship.  Be sure to check the applicable box on the scholarship application. 
     
  • Former tobacco growers may receive special consideration for certain scholarships. Be sure to check the applicable box on the scholarship application.
