What is TEAS Testing?
TEAS testing is required for entrance to nursing (RN and LPN-RN), practical nursing, and radiography programs at Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC).
- TEAS tests may be taken 3 times within an application period with a recommended 7-day wait between retakes.
- TEAS (Allied Health Test) scores are valid for 3 years. TEAS (RN & PN Tests) scores are valid for 5 years.
- If the Testing Center or VHCC is closed due to unforeseeable circumstances on the date of the scheduled test, the testing date will be rescheduled.
- The TEAS test consists of four sections, Reading, Science, Math and English. Each section is timed with a total time of about 3.5 hours allowed for the test.
Register with ATI
Before the test date, create an account with ATI at ATI Testing. Click the "Create Account" link and proceed with prompts. Record the user name and password and have this login information available for the test day.
When creating a new account at the ATI web site, from the "Institution" drop down, choose:
- VA Highlands CC ADN for RN applicants
- VA Highlands CC PN for Practical Nursing applicants
- VA Highlands CC AH for those who are taking the TEAS for Radiography
Scheduling a TEAS Test at VHCC
Test Location
TEAS testing is offered at VHCC in the Testing Center located inside the Library on the first floor of the Learning Resource Center - Room 121B.
On the Day of the Test:
- Arrive at the Testing Center at least 15 minutes before scheduled test time.
- Must have a valild crediit or debit card to pay for test.
- Must bring a valid photo ID and the username/password assigned at creation of ATI account.
- All personal items,.food and drinks must be left outside of the testing area.
- Calculators are not allowed.
- Results are immediately avaiilable after completion of test.
Minimum Scores
Practical Nursing applicants must have a minimum composite (total) store of 58.7% and Academic Preparedness of Proficient.
RN applicants must have a minimum score of 45th national percentile for ADN (Associate Degree Nursing, RN and LPN-RN).
If using the TEAS test for proof of math competency for the RN program, the Math Score (MS) must be 65% or more OR the Math National Percentile Rank (MNP) must be 45% or more.
The Radiography program uses Total Score for program entry. You must score a minimum of 65% to be eligible for consideration for the program. VHCC will also accept TEAS scores taken for the RN and PN programs.
Submitting TEAS Scores (Individual Performance Profile)
Please follow the program's guidelines for submitting TEASScores (Individual Performance Profile) with your application.
- Scores may be accessed at any time in the student's ATI Testing Account.
- Under the main menu, click on My Results
- Click on the exam attempt and then select Download Report
